Tomorrow is Good Friday. A little boy, being told this, responded with “wasn’t too good for Jesus”. I suppose one could decide to see it that way. Remember though the night in the Garden Jesus spent before His death. He battled with His Father about dying. The whole “spirit is willing but the flesh is weak” thing. Truth be told, though Good Friday WAS bad for Jesus, He wouldn’t have had it any other way. It’s told to us in Hebrews 12:2-4 – keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
So tomorrow, take a few moments to recall the Friday Jesus had for you. His arrest…trial…beatings…path to the hill of crucifixion…nails in His hands and feet…raised up in naked shame to listen to hatred and ridicule…finally dying for the guilty people He loved. Physically Friday was horrible. But He now gets to spend eternity with His dad and all His brothers and sisters. He wouldn’t have had it any other way. He didn’t give up…and neither should we. It may be Friday now, BUT SUNDAY IS COMING! See you then.
